Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Fleet Management Solutions (FMS) is an industry unique offering from Tata Motors Commercial Vehicle business unit which is comprehensive bumper-to-bumper professionally managed vehicle maintenance solution and offered to customers. FMS ensures a better optimization and utilization of operations, along with breakdown & highway support and better product lifecycle enhancement. The FMS package is not only certified to servicing or maintenance activities for your fleet of vehicles but it is also a comprehensive package of different services, managed in a professional way.

Opting for an Fleet Management Solution (FMS) offers several important advantages:

  • Predictable Costs: With an FMS, you pay a fixed amount, protecting your business from unexpected maintenance expenses or sudden repair bills.
  • Simplified Payments: FMS eliminates the hassle of handling cash or making indirect payments, reducing the need to send cash with drivers or manage workshop transactions individually.
  • Effortless Maintenance Tracking: All vehicle maintenance and related costs are tracked and managed for you, saving time and removing the burden of monitoring expenses across your fleet.
  • Nationwide Service Access: FMS service is available at authorized centers across India. Service and repairs can be done wherever your vehicle is, without waiting for it to return to a specific base location.

Choosing FMS means greater peace of mind, better cost control, and less administrative hassle, allowing you to focus more on your core business.

Warranty and FMS work together to provide complete vehicle protection. Here's what makes FMS valuable even during the warranty period:

Warranty covers: Manufacturing defects and issues arising from product faults. FMS additionally covers:

  • Consumables and Service Parts: Items like filters, grease, coolant, and lubricants must be paid out-of-pocket during warranty, but are included in your FMS package.
  • Wear-and-Tear Components: Normal wear-and-tear parts are not covered by warranty but are protected under FMS (subject to proper vehicle usage and handling).
  • Predictable Maintenance Costs: Even during warranty, routine service expenses can add up. FMS bundles these costs into one fixed payment, making budgeting easier.

Your warranty benefits remain fully intact with FMS—you simply gain additional coverage for routine maintenance and wear & tear items that warranty doesn't address. Together, they ensure comprehensive vehicle care from day one.

A commercial vehicle, like any other machine, may experience wear and tear or occasional component failures over time. Beyond the regular scheduled service requirements—such as filter replacements and lubricant top-ups—certain parts may need replacement depending on usage. These can include clutch assemblies, brake liners and pads, shaft assemblies, bearings, or fan belts.

In rare cases, even major aggregates like the engine, gearbox, or differential may require repairs or overhauling due to normal wear and tear. Such unforeseen maintenance needs can lead to significant, unplanned expenses. By opting for an Fleet Management Solution (FMS), you are protected from these sudden repair costs, ensuring predictable maintenance expenses and peace of mind throughout your vehicle’s operation.

For a customer, setting up and operating their own workshop comes with several limitations:

  • High Fixed Costs: Establishing a workshop involves significant expenses such as infrastructure (land, shed, and equipment), manpower (mechanics, supervisors, and administrators), and power. These costs remain fixed and cannot easily scale up or down with fluctuations in vehicle maintenance demand. In addition, customers must bear the cost of maintaining spares and lubricants inventory, as well as equipment upgrades and upkeep.
  • Limited Coverage: Customer-owned workshops are restricted to specific locations and cannot be set up across multiple regions or routes, limiting maintenance flexibility.
  • Operational Effort: Running a workshop requires constant management and supervision to ensure smooth operations, adding to the customer’s workload and operational complexity.

In contrast, FMS offers a flexible and cost-effective solution. Customers pay only for the vehicles covered under the FMS and can access services at 1,800+ Tata Motors authorized service centre’s across the country. These workshops are equipped with advanced tools and diagnostic equipment, and staffed by trained technicians who provide expert service and technical guidance—ensuring consistent maintenance quality without the hassles of running an in-house workshop.
